CARGO BOOKINGS

All cargo must be pre-booked prior to delivery at the wharf. This requires completion of an Interim Receipt or Forwarding Instruction (see below) or you can contact your local agent for details.

Cargo to Norfolk Island is handled as break bulk operation and all cargo must be palletised. Exceptions, which are crated, must be skidded so the unit is capable of being fork lifted from at least two sides.

INTERIM RECEIPT (click here for Interim Receipt)

You must complete the following details on the Interim Receipt:

  • Shipper (ie your company NOT Norfolk Island Shipping)
  • Consignee (ie who cargo is being shipped to on Norfolk Island)
  • Contact name & phone number
  • Number & description of packages
  • Gross weight (This is required to calculate the freight rate)
  • Accurate cubic measurement in metric (i.e. length x width x height = m3 including the pallet) (N.B. This is required to calculate the freight rate)
  • Freight. This will be 'Prepaid' unless otherwise arranged with the shipping line.
  • Carrier (Click here for carrier details)

    The completed Interim Receipt must be forwarded to the N.I.S. Line office by fax (02 6646 4472) or email (freight@nisline.com.au). When received, we will fax/email back a Booking Number.

    For goods monetary $2000 in value we will require:-

  • A copy of the Commercial Invoice
  • Export Declaration Number
  • Australian Customs requires all cargo value over $2000 and non-exempt to have an Export Declaration Number in order to be exported out of Australia. Norfolk Island Shipping can raise this number for your shipment. (Cost is $95).
  • Hazardous goods - Completion of MO41/1&2 (click here for form)

    All paperwork must be completed and provided to Norfolk Island Shipping by the Wednesday prior to sailing date.

    DELIVERY DOCUMENTATION & CARGO RECEIVAL

    The following documentation must accompany all cargo delivered to Receival Depots and Goodwood Island Wharf.

  • Interim Receipt with Booking Number (All goods)
  • Completed MO41/1&2 for Hazardous goods

    Our Receival Depots are instructed that cargo not clearly marked with the Booking Number is not to be accepted for shipment. Carriers attempting to deliver cargo without the above documents may experience delays.

    Bills of Lading are available on request.

    Both general goods and hazardous goods may be delivered to receival depots up to 2 weeks prior to delivery date at the Wharf.

    General cargo is received at the wharf two days prior to sailing, usually Monday & Tuesday. Freezer/cooler cargo is received same day as sailing day, usually Wednesday.

    PALLETS

    Cargo to Norfolk Island is handled as a break bulk operation. All cargo must be palletised so that the unit is capable of being fork lifted from at least 2 sides. Please be aware Norfolk Island has lighterage discharge of cargo.

    SIZES

    • General Pallets: Should not exceed
      1.2m W x 1.2m L x 1.5m H
      nor weigh more then 2.0 tonnes (2000Kgs)

      Freezer/Cooler Pallets: Should not exceed
      0.94m W x 1.2m L x 1.2m H
      nor weigh more then 2.0 tonnes (2000Kgs)

      Crates: Should not exceed
      2.0m W x 2.0m L x 2.5m H
      nor weigh more than 2.5 tonnes (2,500Kgs)

      Heavy Lift Surcharge All cargo over 4 tonnes incurs a surcharge of $30.00 per tonne surchanrge.

    EMPTY PALLETS- are not returned from Norfolk Island. It is recommended that disposable/non-returnable pallets be used.

    PACKING- The cargo must be securely strapped and shrink-wrapped (preferably black polythene). Goods delivered to depot/wharf, which are not considered up to the stringent standards required for effective discharge at Norfolk Island, will be re-palletised/wrapped/strapped with all charges to the cargo's account.     SHIPPING MARKS

    It is essential that ALL CARGO is clearly marked with the BOOKING NUMBER on at least TWO SIDES of the cargo.
    Freezer/Cooler cargo - all cartons should be marked.

    Cargo that is not clearly marked with the Booking Number and cannot be identified will be removed from Goodwood Island Wharf within 3 hours to comply with Australian Customs Service's Regulations.

    INSURANCE

    Freight rates do not include insurance. Please be aware Norfolk Island has lighterage discharge of cargo. Norfolk Island Shipping cannot guarantee the cargo outturn & does not take responsibility for the lighterage discharge.

    Marine insurance is the shipper's/consignee's responsibility and we recommend you insure your cargo.

    FREIGHT

    All freight charges for cargo to Norfolk Island should be prepaid by the shipper at the port of shipment, by Friday prior to sailing, except by special arrangements with the Norfolk Island Shipping.

    HARZARDOUS CARGO

    All hazardous cargo bookings are accepted only subject to receipt of completed and signed MO41/1&2 documents. Copies are to be lodged with your local booking office three (3) working days prior to vessel arrival in order for the necessary authorities to be notified.

    FREEZER/COOLER CARGO

    Freezer/cooler cargo must be marked with 'Freezer, Cooler' labels or stickers. Shipments should be packed on pallets 900mm size for loading into containers

    Each individual carton must be labelled with the Booking Number as well as Freezer / cooler stickers minimum size 150cm x 5cm.
